In this Xinhua-Baltic International Maritime Center Development Index report, Singapore ranked first, Hong Kong second, London third, Shanghai fourth, and Dubai fifth.

The Xinhua-Baltic International Maritime Center Development Index is an independent ranking of major cities around the world that provide port and shipping services.

This is a collaboration between Xinhua News Agency, a Chinese state news agency, and Baltic Exchange, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Singapore Exchange and an international freight benchmark provider.

The ranking is based on factors such as port throughput and facilities, the depth and breadth of professional maritime support services, and the general business environment.

“Based on the assessment scores, Singapore excels in ship management and ship broking services, while Hong Kong is benefiting from China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the economic opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,” Baltic Exchange said in a statement released on Thursday.”
