Singapore's Tuas Port in the west will become the world's largest fully automated terminal in the future!

Singapore's new Tuas port will use automation technology for its key operations as Singapore plans to revitalize and reimagine its maritime industry.

Port operator PSA said on Thursday (October 3, 2019) that when fully completed by 2040, the mega-port in western Singapore will be the world's largest fully automated terminal, featuring automated quay and yard operations and functions such as fully electric automated guided vehicles.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new terminal on Thursday, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the move to Tuas is not just about having a bigger terminal. Tuas port is also an opportunity to look ahead, to rethink the future of shipping. As the port will be located on a completely new site, Singapore can build in key features of innovation and sustainability. PSA needs to go all out to stay vibrant and to spur its competitors to invest in automation and expand rapidly.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong hopes that young Singaporeans will seriously consider employment at PSA, MPA (Maritime and Port Authority), or other companies in Singapore's maritime ecosystem, to have the opportunity to write the next chapter of Singapore's maritime history.

In addition to handling only containers, the port will also set aside space for companies, a move that will improve the connection between the port and businesses.

According to MPA statistics, The maritime industry contributes 7% to Singapore's GDP and employs approximately 170,000 employees
