Singapore's Intellectual Property Office (IPOS) strengthens support to enhance the IP capabilities of creative individuals and enterprises.


August 27, 2024, Singapore's Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, Edwin Tong announced at the "Singapore Intellectual Property Week" that, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) will collaborate with the Visual, Imaging and Creative Professionals Association (VICPA) under the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) to assist creative professionals in various ways over the next few years, leveraging intellectual property to generate business opportunities and protection for their creations.

This collaboration includes: (1) conducting events and campaigns to enhance the understanding of intellectual property among creative professionals and young people; (2) providing VICPA members with guidelines, best practices, case studies, and analyses to help them extract and enhance the intellectual property value of their creations, maximizing economic benefits; (3) providing training for creative professionals in patent licensing, negotiation, and commercialization of creative works to help them manage and monetize their intellectual property.

In addition, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore announced a collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy to continue providing training for businesses and intellectual property professionals in the region over the next five years, building on the executive training program, leveraging intellectual property for sustainable growth and development.

The agency will also collaborate with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore to extend the collaboration, enhancing intellectual property capabilities in the maritime sector over the next three years, assisting maritime businesses, startups, and research institutions in commercializing intellectual property.
