Singapore and Malaysia Strengthen Cooperation to Tackle Regional Challenges


25 August 2025 — Singapore’s Minister-in-Charge of Public Service and Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing, visited Malaysia today and met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Both sides exchanged views on the longstanding close ties between Singapore and Malaysia as well as developments in the regional landscape.

 

Minister Chan noted that Singapore and Malaysia are not competitors with each other; rather, the real competition stems from the rapidly changing global environment. In facing global challenges, he emphasised that only through joint efforts can both countries contribute more effectively to regional peace and prosperity. He also stressed the importance of further deepening bilateral cooperation to collectively address external challenges.

 

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of the Singapore-Malaysia relationship, highlighting that strong bilateral ties not only enhance mutual trust but also contribute positively to regional stability. Minister Chan also pointed out the broad opportunities for cooperation in maintaining peace, security, economic progress, and social development.

 

Malaysia expressed its appreciation for Singapore’s longstanding support and looked forward to further strengthening engagement and advancing cooperation between the two countries.

 

This visit was regarded as another significant step in advancing bilateral relations. Both Singapore and Malaysia underscored their commitment to mutual trust and benefit, and to working together to achieve a more prosperous and stable future for the region.
