Singapore-Malaysia RTS Link Train Begins Testing Phase

Singapore, July 2, 2025 — The first train for the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) link Train has arrived in Singapore and begun its inspection and testing phase, marking a key milestone in the cross-border infrastructure project set to commence passenger operations by the end of 2026.

Transported from a manufacturing facility in Zhuzhou, China, the four-car train was delivered via barge and then transferred to trailers for land transport. It arrived at the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC) in Tuas Link on April 3, escorted by twelve auxiliary police vehicles during a 45-minute journey from Jurong Port.

Upon arrival, a dedicated team of engineers and technicians began the process of conducting thorough checks, including the inspection of undercarriages, electrical cables, air supply lines, and onboard safety systems. The train was powered up using a portable power supply, allowing teams to verify systems such as braking, door operations, and communications.

The RTS train was then coupled to a shunting locomotive and moved to designated testing tracks. These initial tests are essential to ensure compatibility with Singapore’s existing rail systems and to prepare for dynamic testing at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

This train is the first of eight sets scheduled to be delivered for the RTS Link, which will connect 4km track between Singapore’s Woodlands North station and Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru. Once operational, the service aims to significantly reduce travel time across the border, easing congestion and improving regional connectivity.

With construction and testing progressing as planned, the RTS link train remains on track to be a major addition to the region’s integrated public transport infrastructure, supporting smoother and more efficient travel between Singapore and Malaysia.
